Haworthia root cutting.
Today, fortunately, I've found two of my haworthia plants have withered roots. During hot summer, Haworthia have a very high chance to get withered roots. In this case, we have to cut those withered ones properly. So, what is the proper way to cut those roots? It's depends, but the general rules are:
1. Keep those strong white roots.

2. Cut anything until you see the pink heart. (Usually it is pink.) This is because the dead tissue will impede the growth of new roots.

3. Sterilize it.(幫他消毒)
4. Wait it dried and go for rooting.

Haworthia rooting by cuttings/leaf cuttings during hot summer-- Experiment 1.
1. Cut, disinfect and dry your haworthia(leaves).

2. Prepare the shells of the new generation cachapons and disinfect them.(消毒扭蛋殼備用)
3. Put clean tissue paper at the bottom as the hatching bed and then put the plant on it. After that, spray some rooting hormone water* on it.(用乾淨衛生紙當著床,噴灑發根水給直株與著床)

4. Stuff the egg with some warps. Do not overflowing the egg. Leave as many space as possible since we only need to fasten the plant.(用乾淨保鮮膜塞住植物不要讓他晃動)
5. Close it and make sure the plant has been fixed.(關起來,並確保植物不會晃動)

6. Put all eggs into a freezer bag and spray some rooting water again. Then, fasten it. Do NOT seal it.

7. Put it into your refrigerator for rooting.
*I will not public the rooting hormone water ingredients unless I succeed.

Cotyledon tomentosa ssp. tomentosa  a.k.a Bear's Paw(熊童子)
A very adorable succulent species in the markets, has plump leaves with teeth at tips. Attractively, those teeth will become red or dark red if under sufficient bright sunlight and the temperature varies much from day to night. Unlike it's lazy appearance, the cultivation requires a little bit caution since during the wet hot summer (>30C) it will hibernate and sometimes lose it paws and during the cold wet long winter, it might lose it roots. Fortunately, the wild bear has been tamed by gardener selection. Select the bear with short plump and red paws and lignified stem to make sure you buy the robust  type. Do Not purchase no roots bear during hot seasons.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Name:  Cotyledon tomentosa ssp. tomentosa  a.k.a Bear's Paw(熊童子)

Growing speed: Fast.

Cultivation difficulty: Moderate.

Shape: Graptopetalum: ovate and fuzzy

Color: Green with red or dark red teeth.

Hibernation: Hot season(Summer). Water with caution if temp> 30C and humidity >60%.

Culture medium: Well-drained soil.

Recommended:  Highly in cold and dry locations. Not recommended in wet and hot zones.

Purchase guide by observing leaves:
Type A: Highly recommended. Still growing under 35C.
Type B: Moderate. Relatively larger leaves but with obvious hibernation. Stop growing when temp > 32C.

Type C: Not recommended. The large long and thin leaves will lose paws when temp > 30C and easily get rotten roots when humidity > 60%

Here is a typical case of Haworthia hibernation Problem: The withered dried roots.
(Chinese speaker can use google translator, I've checked the result and it is correct.
Normally, gardener will adapt water rationing for those hibernating succulents to avoid rotten root, especially in hot and wet weather. However, a long period of water ration sometime causes problems. The root will dying due to the water shortage. Most haworthia plants will still need you to moisten the soil once a week to keep their root activation. Here is the case:
1. Apparently, there is no visible disease evidence. However, if your haworthia has become a little bit softer than before, you might need to pull it out for a check.(感覺比之前軟一點點)
2. Most of roots are dried. (soft and paper thin.)

3.Cut off those dried roots since they are already dead and spray some diluted bleach solution on it for sanitation. (probably 0.4-0.1%)

4. If the temperature is above 33C, you might need to pack it into a freezer bag with some small holes and let it sleep in the refrigerator(>4C) in the whole summer and regularly, spray some water once every 2 weeks depending on your refrigerator's capability.
